Are You Putting Limits On Your
Own Sales Success?
 

Far too many Financial Planners or Advisors are not achieving their full sales potential. Why? In many cases it’s because of “what ifs”. What if I try a new way to market myself and it doesn’t work? What if my co-workers think my marketing ideas are dumb idea? What if the compliance department shoots my ideas down? What if…. “What if”.


It takes courage to go against the norm. But we must remember that the vast majority
of people who have ever achieved remarkable success, have done so because they have found the courage to be different.


In my opinion sales professionals in the financial services industry need to adopt more
of an entrepreneurial attitude when it comes to marketing themselves and their services.

I understand that there are certain corporate restraints placed upon you by the companies
you work for, but there’s still room to be entrepreneurial.


To be entrepreneurial means taking informed risk and making changes in the way you market and promote yourself. It means exploring new opportunities and discovering new ways to improve your marketing and the experience your clients have when they interact with you.


In my day to day experience I come across many financial advisors and planners who stop themselves from achieving breakthrough success because of a “what if" attitude.

My recommendation is that planners and advisors start to see themselves more as
small business operators instead of just sales reps representing a company. You need to
change your “what if” attitude to “what if I don’t”. The high cost of maintaining the status quo
is not always visible until it's too late to take action.


I understand that change can be difficult at times, but if you want to improve your business and increase your sales you will have to change some of the things you are currently doing. As you may have already heard, the definition of insanity is to do the same things over and over again, but expecting different results.


So I encourage you all to explore different ways to market yourself. Try to find marketing ideas that will help you stand out from the crowd and make what you offer to your clients and prospects unique. Get rid of your “what ifs” and you will achieve even more sales success than you are today.
